Turn-based Tactical RPG MENACE Revealed at gamescom 2023
Developer Overhype Studios and publisher Hooded Horse have announced their brand-new turn-based tactical RPG MENACE at gamescom 2023. MENACE is a grounded sci-fi strategy title that will put players into the front row to restore order in the far reaches of space. The announcement was also accompanied by a cool new trailer for MENACE that reveals a lot of details about the game such as its visual style, units, and actual gameplay as well. In MENACE, you will travel from planet to planet while controlling infantry, tanks, and mechs to answer distress calls and engage in intense turn-based combat. During these battles, you will be cut off from the core worlds and no help will arrive for you so your survival will depend on your own skill. The game takes its inspiration from Battle Brothers, Overhype’s previous title, and improves massively on everything. You will find evolving characters, challenging gameplay, army management, dynamic sandbox gameplay, and everything else to be a lot better this time around.
The highlighted feature is the 3D environments that allow for larger skirmishes across living battlefields, and the game’s mysterious enemy also builds on Battle Brother’s sandbox and offers a powerful enemy that has profound consequences on the strategic layer. Key features of MENACE include:
Procedurally generated multi-mission operations.
Large, dynamic battle maps with innovative new mechanics for suppression and cover.
A wide variety of vehicles for total combined-arms warfare.
A large (and randomized) selection of characters to talk to, train, and forge together into an elite force aboard the TCRN Impetus, the player’s mobile base of operations.
Countless equipment options, detailed supply management, and the ability to commandeer vehicles.
Disparate factions to negotiate and ally with, or destroy, at the player’s option.
If you are interested in trying out MENACE, you can head over to Hooded Horse’s gamescom booth in Hall 10.1/stand E-020. You will be able to try out MENACE along with many other games at the booth as well. MENACE is slated for an early access release for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store in 2024.
